Our training programs are unique in that all the training is done in the home environment and in the locations that people like to take their dogs. The amount of professional help you need is assessed in an in-home evaluation. For people who are going on vacation, the Boarding School option may be best. For those that need extra professional help, but who want to practice with their dog in the evenings, the Day School may be perfect. And for those who want to accomplish everything on their own with some coaching, In-Home Lessons may be the best choice.
Boarding School
Dog’s Life is an exclusive boarding school with all the extras. Because your dog lives in our home as if he were our own, we gain a full understanding of the training issues and develop practical solutions that are easy to follow through with. Learning at Dog’s Life is 24/7 just as it is when your dog lives in your home. While your dog stays with us he will learn how to walk on a loose leash, sit and down, stay, leave it, come here, in addition to some fun games like fetch and give. Your dog will also learn how to be calm for grooming and petting. For dogs that do more training with us, we venture out into the community. The Redmond Town Center is a great place for socializing your dog to the distractions of life such as meeting new people, seeing new dogs, and learning to just hang out while you window shop or have a cup of coffee.
Once we are confident that your dog knows his new job, we hand the leash over to you and teach you how to be an equal partner in your dog’s education. It takes two to make it work! Training the whole family so that everyone feels confident is the biggest priority. The coaching sessions will be held at your house or locations that you would enjoy taking your dog to. The main goal is educating everyone on how to manage and maintain the training in the settings that you would like the dog to be at his best in.
Day School
The Day School option is perfect for people who want to participate in the training day to day. Day school is Monday through Friday and nightly instructions are given at pick-up time to help the dog learn best. A weekly coaching session in the dog’s home each Friday gives the family the skills to continue the training on their own throughout the weekend. The day School option is most successful over a minimum of two weeks. Three weeks is optimum.
In-Home Lessons
The In-Home Lesson is a great start for many people. The initial lesson usually lasts 1.5 hours, with the following lessons lasting an hour. Before we work with your dog, we will evaluate the dog, the issues, and the goal the family has for the dog. Any serious behavior problems such as aggression must be disclosed prior to the lesson.
Puppy and Dog Selection
Choosing the right puppy or dog for your family is the biggest and most important step towards having the best family dog. Temperament and energy level are the first thing to consider and the two things you can not change. As a general rule, it is best to select a dog that is slightly lower energy and with a more submissive temperament than the family members.
